Complex surgery in pancreatic cancer

Status
Ongoing
Introduction
Our own research has shown that, in patients with pancreatic cancer, a hospital’s mortality rate in the 30- to 90-day period after surgery decreases in indirect proportion to the complexity of the pancreatic surgery performed in that hospital. Specialised care, and in particular a high-technology surgical procedure (i.e. complex surgery), produces the best outcomes when provided under conditions of clinical and scientific expertise.

Objective
Under this registration project, data are registered on the outcomes of complex surgery for benign, premalignant and malignant diseases of the pancreas and/or periampullary region. These data are registered online by the nursing facilities approved to perform complex surgery of this kind and is a requirement for financial reimbursement by the Rijksinstituut voor Ziekte- en Invaliditeitsverzekering (RIZIV) (National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance). The project database contains data from 1 July 2019 and is used to analyse quality of care.

Financial support and partners
This registration project is run in collaboration with the RIZIV.
